Wild and Scenic Myakka River

Aerial view of the Myakka River coming back toward Venice on a flight from North Port, Florida. The Myakka has an interesting history with some claims of being used for a Tarzan movie or two, too long ago for anyone around to actually remember… but that’s the story. It has a governmental designation of “Wild and Scenic” which I guess means you can’t really do anything with it other than look at it or take a small boat and get away from it all. Back in the early 1900’s it was investigated to be a trade route for boats and they thought about dredging it for commerce. Sure glad that didn’t happen!
