Aerial view of the northern section of Venice along the bayfront. In the left foreground with the orange roofs are the Epiphany church and school. The bayfront area is part of the Intracoastal Waterway system. The Venice Jetties leads to the Gulf of Mexico in the upper mid-left portion of the photo. The land across from the Venice bayfront is Nokomis. The Intracoastal Waterway in the Venice area was created in the mid 60′s when the Army Corp of Engineers dug from the eastern end of the bay south around Venice (creating what is now referred to as “The Island of Venice”) and into the northern end of Lemon Bay.
